Sorrell's S4Capital Expands Team and Board

Sir Martin Sorrell's recently launched marcoms group S4Capital has hired his former WPP colleague Scott Spirit as Chief Growth Officer with a seat on the company's Board, while another former WPP exec, Elizabeth Buchanan, joins as a Non-Executive Director.

S4Capital was set up by Sorrell in May last year, just six weeks after he left WPP amid claims of 'personal misconduct' - which he strongly denied. Under Sorrell's guidance, S4Capital's first acquisition was of Dutch creative digital production company MediaMonks, and the business then merged with programmatic solutions provider MightyHive. Earlier this year, S4Capital expanded its digital content and programmatic capabilities with the acquisitions of Amsterdam and Miami-based film production studio Caramel Pictures and Sao Paulo-based programmatic consultancy ProgMedia.

Spirit (pictured) will join the company's Singapore office on 18 July from artificial intelligence company Eureka AI, where he will continue to serve as a Board member and Advisor. Previously, he spent fifteen years at WPP, latterly as Chief Strategy and Digital Officer; and he was also a Director of Nairobi-listed WPP-Scangroup. Earlier, he worked at Deloitte and Associated Newspapers. In his new role, Spirit will focus on clients, mergers and acquisitions, and investor relations.

Buchanan will join the Board on 12 July 2019 with 25 years' experience in technology, marketing and advertising. This background includes founding her own full-service digital ad agency The White Agency; and holding senior roles at WPP (Division Head, reporting to CEO at WPP AUNZ), OMD Worldwide as President, Global Transformation and CMO), and most recently at martech business Rokt. She has previously sat on the Boards of Because Brand Experience and The Luke Batty Foundation in Australia, and is currently a Non-Executive Director at Vital Voices Global Partnership.
