Pulsar and Sermo Launch 'The Drug Sentiment Index'

AI-powered audience intelligence platform Pulsar has partnered with online physician community Sermo to launch The Drug Sentiment Index, providing details of what doctors, the public and the media think about 165 top-selling drugs.

Peter Kirk and Francesco D'OrazioLondon and Los Angeles-based Pulsar combines conversational and behavioral signals from the web to help brands understand and target their audiences. The new Index is available on the Bloomberg enterprise access point and updated daily, and combines drug ratings from Sermo with visibility and sentiment from Pulsar, providing a quant measure of ongoing perceptions of a drug on a scale of 0 to 100. This provides investment and pharma professionals with real-time, ongoing understanding of drug reputation and public perception across different stakeholder groups.

Sermo's data provides access to nearly a million physician drug ratings, including a summary of doctor perceptions across six areas: preference, efficacy, safety, tolerability, accessibility and adherence, totaling more than five million data points; with doctors providing over 3,000 new drug ratings weekly, and over 15,000 unique data points. This data offering builds on Sermo and Pulsar's existing partnership, which aims to provide pharma and healthcare execs with a 360-degree view of the medical, public and media conversation on health.

Sermo CEO Peter Kirk (pictured left) says that by being able to 'take the pulse' of physicians and patients daily, the Index will uncover trends in confidence and interest that are not always reflected elsewhere. Francesco D'Orazio, co-founder and CEO of Pulsar, adds: 'By combining doctor drug ratings with sentiment and visibility from social media and the news we are able to layer in a previously unavailable qualitative element that provides a deeper understanding of the value physicians, patients, markets and media place on these drugs'.
