ORC Leaves Its Home in Tucson, Arizona

In the US, Opinion Research Corporation will be closing its Tucson office at the end of March following the loss of a number of client contracts.

The firm currently employs around 240 part-time and six full-time staff in Tucson, who were notified about the closure last week.

According to Operations Manager James Lytle, existing client contracts will now be handled by the firm's Reno, Nevada operation.

In a statement, ORC said: 'Following a periodic review of our resources, Opinion Research Corporation will be closing its Tuscon call center effective March 31, 2009. This review highlighted an opportunity for us to enhance our call center capabilities through the introduction of new technology which allows us to virtualize call center operations and integrate call centers in multiple ORC and infoGROUP divisions. This decision also reflects our commitment to meeting the needs of our clients, who are increasingly looking for web-based research rather than telephone-based research.

As an organization, Opinion Research Corporation continues to retain a significant call center capacity in multiple locations strategically located around the world.'

Founded in 1938, Opinion Research Corporation has offices across the US, Europe and Asia Pacific region, and is owned by data giant infoGroup.

Earlier in the week, Kantar Operations announced it will be closing its call center in Corpus Christi, Texas in June, which will result in 87 redundancies.
