Dr Adam Gazzaley and Barry HersteinUS neuromarketing agency NeuroFocus has appointed neuroscience specialist Dr Adam Gazzaley and high-profile marketer Barry Herstein to its Advisory Board.

Based in Berkeley, California, NeuroFocus applies brainwave, eye-tracking and skin conductance measurements to track how the human brain processes stimuli like advertising, branding, packaging, pricing and product design. Nielsen is a strategic investor in the firm.

Gazzaley is currently Director of the Neuroscience Imaging Center at the University of California; a faculty member in the Neurology, Physiology and Psychiatry departments; and Principal Investigator of a laboratory that conducts research on the neural mechanisms of attention and memory.

A major focus of his research has been to expand the understanding of the alterations in the ageing brain that lead to cognitive decline, and his most recent studies explore how to improve attention and memory abilities in older adults.

Herstein is the General Manager North America and CMO for PayPal. Prior to this, he was CMO for American Express International’s consumer business, CMO at the Financial Times, MD of Consumer Marketing for Citibank, and Group VP of Marketing for Avon Products.

The Advisory Board already includes senior business executives from the Leibniz Institute of Neurobiology, the Brain & Cognition Laboratory, and Harvard Business School, among others.
