Tool Promises Better Data on Air Passengers

May 20 2010

US-based Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) has launched a research tool which links purchaser point-of-sale with passenger itinerary and demographic data. DataXpert Market Locator aims to help airports and airlines with their consumer targeting.

The tool has been developed in collaboration with ARC's technology partner Diio, which claims 18 of the top 20 carriers in North America as users. The online analytical tool, pitched at non-specialist users, analyses millions of actual ticket purchases and allows for data exploration at multiple levels of geographic detail from metro areas and cities down to ZIP codes.

Mike Premo, VP for Sales, Marketing and Customer Care at Arlington, VA-based ARC says traditional sources such as airline booking data have reported on transactions between distributors and suppliers, with the result that data 'points to a limited number of large online travel agencies, which helps little when you're looking for passenger info'. By contrast, 'with ARC DataXpert Market Locator, you'll see the actual point-of-sale by purchaser ZIP code and then [be able to] generate forward-looking, actionable intelligence to influence travel behavior.'

The tool is online at www.arccorp.com/dxps/index.jsp .
