Google Nears Monopoly of Mobile Search

July 30 2010

Research by Dublin-based StatCounter suggests that Google accounts for more than 98% of the global mobile search market.

The figures, for July, show Yahoo! with 0.81% of mobile search queries and Bing with 0.46%, versus Google's overwhelming 98.29%. In the non-mobile search market, Google's share is currently around 63% in the US and slightly higher in the rest of the world.

In April, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said the company was strongly focused on search on the mobile, which he sees as the future of Internet access: 'We operate with the assumption people will carry with them a mobile device at all times.'
