In the US, the dispute between Sunbeam Television and Nielsen appears to be coming to a conclusion: the parties informed a judge in Miami last week that they are close to resolving the suit.
Sunbeam says that Nielsen's new Local People Meter (LPM) system has cost it 'more than $1m per month' in damage to the revenues of its Miami station WSVN due to under-representation of minorities and other audience demographics. Nielsen has repeatedly said the suit is without merit and intends to defend it vigorously.
Sunbeam announced the action in the Spring of 2009, and Nielsen has since failed to have it dismissed. Neither side has as yet provided further details of the progress made since August 20th this year when the two entered mandatory mediation.
