Twitter 'To Launch Analytics Product'

September 23 2010

Twitter is planning to introduce a real-time analytics dashboard before the end of the year, according to reports.

Webtrends blogger Justin Kistner reported the announcement by Twitter business development exec Ross Hoffman from a sports marketing summit he attended this week. The tool will show users information including which tweets are spreading and who is influential in their network, in real time, allowing them to make rapid changes to their tactics.

The product will be the work of the team responsible for Trendly, who joined Twitter with the latter's acquisition of Smallthought Systems in June and whose Dabble DB online database product was previously used by Twitter to track and share information. The new service will be free to use and will make use of algorithms similar to the Twitter Resonance concept, according to Kistner.

Kistner says it is unclear at present whether or not the data will be made available via an API, as Facebook has done, but given Twitter's previous record this seems likely.
