ECAFtech Debuts OOH Facial Recognition System

October 1 2010

In Taiwan, face identification and tracking technology specialist ECAFtech has launched an audience measurement solution for out-of-home (OoH) media such as digital signs, in-store product displays, kiosks and display windows.

On the rise: facial recognition technologyECAFtech's new DSVC (digital signage viewer counter) uses biometric technology from its FACE U system to capture details about the people who pass outdoor signage, and record how many consumers saw an ad and how long they looked at the digital signage.

Feedback can then be analysed in real-time to evaluate media performance and determine the best location for the signage.

'The core technology has been designed to detect the faces of passersby - it doesn't just determine how many people are watching but also shows the audience's engagement level with the digital signage content,' states VP Mr Hwang. 'Audiences pay more attention time to the digital content that they are interested in, and by verifying audience's viewing distance, DSVC can determine the optimized size of digital signage in different locations.'
