Kinesis Survey App Adds Barcode Scanner

US-based Kinesis Survey Technologies has added embedded barcode scanning technology to its latest multi-function mobile research app.

Headquartered in Austin, TX, Kinesis specialises in survey and panel management software across all modes of interviewing, including web and mobile platforms.

Kinesis MobileScan is a downloadable app that can be licensed to market research firms. It provides a built-in mobile barcode scanner that captures purchase data for point-of-sale diaries and other purchase-reporting research. All barcode information (product brand, type, size) plus geolocation and timestamp information is collected.

The new app is fully integrated with Kinesis' existing products, Kinesis Survey and Kinesis Panel. It also includes panelist registration, survey access, community interaction, digital image/video/audio and text collection, and in-app messaging to supplement or replace email and SMS communications. The app is customizable and is compatible with iPhone and iPod devices, with an Android-compatible version planned for release later this year.

According to Juha Vehnia, Kinesis CTO, 'The ability to report purchases in the moment via barcode scanning enables more immediate and accurate tracking of purchase patterns, and therefore provides more reliable research results. Since barcode scanning cannot be facilitated via a mobile web browser, a downloadable app is the ideal mechanism to deliver this highly valuable technology to the research community.
