Russian Launch for Video Metrix

comScore has launch its Video Metrix online video measurement service in Russia, and released initial results for viewing in May.

Video Metrix made its debut in the US more than four years ago and has since been launched in many other countries including key economies in Asia, Europe's big 5 and Turkey.

Results from the Russian survey show that in May 2011 four billion online videos were viewed by over 41 million unique viewers - 5% more people watching 27% more videos than in March, the first month measured. 85% of the Russian internet population viewed online video, watching an average of 97 videos per person, totalling 11 hours of viewing time per person during the month.

Males aged 15-24 viewed most - an average of 156 videos each, totalling 17.8 hours. Females from the same age group consumed on average 11.8 hours of online video content, watching 99 videos per person.

Google Sites, including YouTube, were the most popular destination for online video viewing with 30.6m unique viewers in May; Mail.ru group were second with over 18m unique viewers; Gazprom Media, owner of Rutube.ru, ranked third with 12.3m; and Yandex Sites, the largest search engine provider and most popular web site overall in Russia, fourth with 6.5m.
