YouGov Opens Summer School

July 13 2011

In the UK, online specialist YouGov has opened a six week summer school, which will allow teams of student entrepreneurs to develop business or product ideas, which YouGov will then help launch.

Stephan ShakespeareThe new 'StartUp Summer' scheme has been developed in collaboration with University College London and Imperial College, with support from Downing Street and the StartUp Britain national new enterprise initiative.

It will offer applicants the chance to pitch to become a member of one of five project teams, which will have access to resources, a £2,000 budget, and support from their own mentor.

These teams will also attend a series of skills workshops and master classes run by educators from UCL and Imperial, as well as entrepreneurs such as Lastminute.com co-founder Martha Lane-Fox, former Pizza Express Chairman Luke Johnson, and international businesswoman Margaret Heffernan.

At the end of the programme, teams will present their ideas in a 'Dragon's Den' style environment, to venture capitalists who will then award a £10,000 cash prize for the winning team to invest in their business idea.

YouGov co-Founder and CEO, Stephan Shakespeare, who is acting as a project mentor and master class speaker, comments: 'Innovation and entrepreneurialism remains at the core of YouGov's business, and we developed StartUp Summer to inspire and encourage a new wave of entrepreneurial talent. I am excited to see how the projects mature over the coming six weeks.'
