SoundOut Secures $2m to Expand Music Research Service

July 20 2011

Online music insight and analytics service SoundOut has raised $2m from a number of investors and entrepeneurs, which it will use for product development and to build on its relationships with radio, record labels and independent artists across the US and UK.

David Courtier-DuttonThe SoundOut platform, which is owned by London-based music industry financing platform Slicethepie, provides recording artists, record labels and radio stations with reports generated directly from millions of consumer reviews about new music releases.

Since its launch, the service has built a comparative database that it claims is able to predict the commercial potential of any new release in any genre, in any market.

In addition, its SoundOut Research service for radio, researches every new release in the US and UK markets with thousands of online music scouts identifying those tracks with the strongest (and weakest) hit potential.

Slicethepie CEO David Courtier-Dutton comments: 'By testing everything and providing a standardized, crowd sourced research methodology to all players in the music ecosystem, we offer everybody cost effective and objective guidance on new music. The funding announced today will enable us to further accelerate this adoption over the coming months and significantly advance our SoundOut technologies.'
