Poynter to Lead Vision Critical London

August 9 2011

Panel and research technology firm Vision Critical has appointed industry veteran Ray Poynter as Executive Vice President and Managing Director of its London office, responsible for development of the UK business.

Ray PoynterPoynter joins with more than 30 years' experience of market research, technology and advanced techniques. He is the author of The Handbook of Online and Social Media Research (www.mrweb.com/mrt/soc10aug.htm ) and the chapter on the Impact of Technology on Market Research in the ESOMAR Handbook of Social and Market Research.

Most recently, he was MD of consultancy The Future Place, and prior to this he held leadership roles at Colmar Brunton, Virtual Surveys, IntelliQuest, Millward Brown, Deux and The Research Business.

In his personal blog, Poynter explains his reasons for the move: 'Advising businesses and thought leaders has been stimulating, but I feel it is time to roll up my sleeves and help create something tangible. I feel that brands in the UK, indeed across Europe, are missing a major chance by not adopting community panels more rapidly and more completely. Vision Critical is the global brand leader in community panels and I think the firm is well placed to help the European market move to the next level.'

In his new role working alongside Kris Hartvigsen and Mike Stevens, Poynter will work with partners and clients to help incorporate community panels and other Vision Critical software into their research practices.

CEO Angus Reid comments: 'Ray is one of a handful of experts worldwide who provide the thought leadership and vision which links the power of social media with the predictive analytics and discipline of behavioral science. His wealth of experience in the research industry and recognized leadership in the area of community panels will enhance our growing operations in the UK and benefit our development work around the world.'

Poynter will be standing down as the Organiser of online conference organiser NewMR and be replaced by co-founder Sue York. However, he will continue to Chair the Festival of NewMR and co-host Radio NewMR.

As a result of his move, The Future Place will largely close down its consulting role and will concentrate on supporting, running and facilitating NewMR, led by Helen Bartlett who has been promoted to the role of MD.
