ABC's Moran to Retire after 30 Years

Mike Moran, EVP of Audit Services at the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), is about to retire after more than 30 years with the organization. He will be replaced by colleague Scott Hanson, who currently serves as SVP, Electronic and Centralized Auditing.

ABC maintains an online database of audited circulation information and an array of readership, audience and web site usage data. Its digital arm ABCi provides audits of web sites and digital ad-based technology.

In addition to the establishment of ABCi , Moran's leadership has seen ABC expand its reach to include a new Insert Verification Service that audits newspaper pre-print distribution, ABC Rapid Report, Agent Compliance Evaluation, postal audits and more, including research verification services such as Reader Profile and Subscriber Profile.

During his tenure, the auditing group has grown to offer publishers additional support through the creation of the Publisher Relations department - a group of experienced ABC auditors who educate, train and advise thousands of publisher members on the application of the organisation's rules and policies.

Commenting on his departure, President and MD Mike Lavery said: 'I'd like to thank Mike for his years of service and dedication to ABC. His colleagues, the ABC Board of Directors and our members have valued his thoughtfulness and perspective over the years. His outstanding knowledge, leadership and perspective will be missed. We wish Mike well in his retirement.'

Hanson takes over from Moran, with responsibilities including overseeing the organization's audit services, including print circulation, insert verification, readership studies and the ABC's member-facing Publisher Relations team. He will continue in his existing role until December 1, and remains staff liaison to the NAA/ABC newspaper committees.

Hanson joined ABC in 1985 and became Director of Field Auditing in 1993. During his time with the organization, he has also served as VP, Internet and New Media Auditing. He was promoted to his current position in 2004.

ABC Chairman Merle Davidson comments: 'Scott is a seasoned auditing professional with extensive knowledge of ABC's processes and members. His time with ABC will serve him well as he broadens his horizons with new responsibilities.'
