Global Forum for Do Not Call Authorities

October 28 2011

Enforcement bodies from twelve countries have announced the launch of an International Do Not Call Network, meeting annually to discuss best practices and 'encourage the development of robust telemarketing laws' worldwide.

The move has been led by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), who will serve as the network's inaugural co-chairs, while the US Federal Trade Commission will host the secretariat.

The new body will also seek to align policies to improve international effectiveness. Konrad von Finckenstein, Q.C., Chairman of the CRTC, explains: 'Enforcement agencies face a common challenge in tracking down individuals and companies who violate telemarketing rules, but operate outside national borders. A global problem calls for global solutions.'

Other countries involved include France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain and the UK.

The Canadian body is online at www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca .
