Deutsche Börse Buys China Sentiment Survey

January 19 2012

Market data specialist Deutsche Börse has acquired the 'China Consumer Sentiment Survey' (CCSS) from Intage Hyperlink Market Consulting (Shanghai), a subsidiary of Japanese market research firm Intage. The deal closed in December for an undisclosed amount reported to be less than $1m.

Shedding light on the Chinese consumer...Based on a monthly CATI survey of more than 1,000 households, the CCSS provides an indicator of consumer outlook across 30 Chinese cities, measuring consumer sentiment on current conditions and future expectations on a series of variables including confidence about economic conditions, personal financial situation, and the willingness to make major purchases. The survey also measures consumers' views about the state of stock and real estate markets, and current and future inflation.

As part of the deal, Intage will continue to collect the survey data, while Deutsche Börse will package and disseminate the reports to subscribers. The survey will be integrated into Deutsche Börse's MNI news product line, alongside other proprietary indices such as the MNI China Business Sentiment Survey and the MNI US Retail Trade Indexes.

Holger Wohlenberg, MD of Market Data & Analtyics for Deutsche Börse, comments: 'The China Consumer Sentiment Survey is an important indicator from both an economic and policy standpoint. This transaction reinforces Deutsche Börse's commitment to further developing its presence and product offerings in Asia.'
