SensoMotoric Rolls Out Portable Eye Tracker

March 14 2012

German eye tracking technology provider SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) has launched a portable version of its system called SMI RED-m, which it says makes it easy to conduct market research studies from public sites.

roving eye tracking...Founded in 1991, SensoMotoric creates computer vision applications for eye and gaze tracking studies. The firm is headquartered in Berlin, with additional offices in Boston, USA, and is backed by a network of partners around the globe.

Director Christian Villwock says the new SMI Red-m, which measures 24cm x 2.5cm x 3.3cm and weighs in at just 130g, enables researchers to study visual perception wherever participants are located.

Offering gaze and pupil data at a sampling rate of 60Hz and 120Hz, SMI Red-m uses automatic eye acquisition and head movement compensation technology to allow for freedom of movement of participants in front of the eye tracker.

The device runs via a single USB port of a desktop, laptop or tablet computer and needs no additional power supply. When combined with SMI Experiment Suite 360° software for experimental design and analysis, the firm says the system becomes a 'ready to go' portable eye tracking lab solution.

Villwock comments: 'Leveraging all our know-how, the RED-m comes in an unprecedented form-factor with scientific grade data quality that allows us to address completely new markets and research fields.'
