Buysight Raises $8m for Behavioral Ad Platform

In the US, behavioral advertising specialist Buysight has completed an $8m Series B financing round, which will be used to expand its ad platform and its engineering, operations and sales teams. The firm has also hired Brian Ball, Microsoft's former CTO for EMEA.

Buysight's Buyer Targeting platform delivers real-time behavioral advertising, with real-time modeling, prediction of purchase intent and media buying. The tool is used for retargeting previous site visitors, acquiring new customers, and targeting relevant, personalized brand ads to likely shoppers.

Next month, the company is moving from its Palo Alto headquarters to new offices in Sunnyvale, CA, with triple the space of its current workplace. Plans are also underway to nearly double the employee headcount in the next nine months.

CEO Armin Ebrahimi (pictured) comments: 'Data-driven, intent-based advertising has proven to be the formula to make online display ads work for retail and other businesses that previously only considered paid search marketing. While retargeting - our core offering - has been recognized in the ad industry as a must-do marketing tactic for driving retail sales, it is only now being built into the plans of the vast majority of online retailers, and we see huge growth for us in the months and years ahead.'

Existing investors ONSET Ventures and Rembrandt Venture Partners led the new financing, which takes Buysight's total funding to date to $18m.

Ball joins the firm as Vice President of Business Operations and Account Management, reporting to Ebrahimi. He was previously CEO of software firm Axonar, ran his own technical consultancy, served as SVP and GM of Application Delivery Networking at computer networking company Blue Coat Systems, and was Microsoft's CTO for EMEA. Earlier in his career, he worked for Tandem, Candle Corporation and IBM.
