New UK Agency Ready to Rock

In the UK, a new agency has launched, dedicated to the investigation, collection, interpretation and marketing of geoscience data. Mantle Research & Consulting starts with a management team of three boasting a 'passion for geology' - Cathrene Rowell, Mark Biswell and Dr Kirti Sharma.

The firm will also offer training courses and a series of MR services specifically targeted at the geoscience industry.

MD Rowell takes charge of the business development, management and marketing of the company. Her dozen years in the market research industry have included running her own marketing and market research agency Research@Cathrene.com, as well as working for German institutes 'at random international', Gelszus Marktforschung, RMM, and mediatransfer (now Harris Interactive). She also represents mo'web as UK Sales and Marketing Director. A Candidate Fellow at The Geological Society, Rowell is currently studying for a BSc at the Open University and hopes in due course to attain a doctorate in geosciences.

Biswell graduated from the Open University in Geosciences and subsequently gained his MSc in Geological and Environmental Hazards from Portsmouth University, brings an extensive industrial background in international engineering projects and additional experience in geohazards, and has worked on overseas projects for Government departments, NGO's and Disaster Management offices.

Sharma has more than a decade of academic research experience in Geoscience specialising in volcanology and igneous petrology, having completed a PhD in the former in 2006 at the OU after earning an MS in Geology and Volcanology at the University of Hawaii. Rowell says she brings 'a strong set of solid research and project management skills...a thorough and systematic approach to research and analytical data analysis, …and an interest in communicating complex scientific data to the public via new media'.
