W20 Buys Big Data Insights Firm Ravel

In the US, big data insights specialist Ravel has been acquired by W20 Group, an independent network of marcoms, research and development firms. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bob PearsonFounded only in 2010, Austin, TX-based Ravel has developed advanced machine learning techniques to uncover insights from big data. Following the acquisition, Ravel's big data analytics technology and pending patents will be integrated into the W20 group, along with the company's team of technologists and consultants.

W20 comprises digital analytics provider WCG and strategic marketing firm Twist Marketing, which offers a range of comms, research and insights, web analytics, social media listening and creative services.

Ravel co-founder and VP Engineering Steve Blackmon becomes Director of Data Sciences at W2O, effective immediately, while the rest of the Ravel development team will join as full-time employees. However, Ravel co-founder Zach Richardson has left to join online publication The Daily Dot, where he becomes one of Ravel's clients.
