SymphonyIRI Names New CEO

Retail analysis giant SymphonyIRI Group has appointed former Aon COO Andrew Appel as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, succeeding John Freeland who plans to retire later in the year.

Andrew AppelThe firm provides market and shopper information, predictive analytics, technology and consulting services for clients in the CPG, retail and healthcare industries.

Appel (pictured) joins from Accretive Health, where he was SVP of Revenue Operations. Before this he worked at insurance and human resource consulting specialist Aon, latterly as Chief Operating Officer, and before this as CEO of the firm’s HR consulting and outsourcing business Aon Consulting, and of its reinsurance division Aon Benfield. Prior to Aon, Appel was a Senior Partner at McKinsey and Company.

Freeland joined the company in 2007 with 28 years’ experience in enterprise information solutions and services. He now moves into a new interim role as Executive Vice Chairman, and will remain on the Board of Directors until his retirement later this year.
