McCrindle Leaves Australian MR Society after Enquiry

June 13 2012

Researcher Mark McCrindle has resigned from the AMSRS (Australian Market & Social Research Society), following an investigation into claims that his company McCrindle Research overstated sample sizes in surveys the agency conducted for its own PR purposes.

Mark McCrindleAMSRS began its investigation into McCrindle Research last October, after ABC TV programme Media Watch featured an examination into the sample sizes the agency quoted in the press.

At the time, McCrindle admitted that his firm had overstated sample sizes, and explained: 'Almost two years ago this was recognised by us to be inadequate and erroneous and since then we have only made reference to the number of completed surveys received.'

However, after AMSRS launched its investigation into McCrindle Research, McCrindle issued his own legal case against the regulatory body, in an attempt to restrain it from dealing with the complaints until a final determination by the court.

According to an article in the Society's publication Research News, proceedings have now been concluded because McCrindle's resignation means the society is unable to complete the process of dealing with the complaints made against him.
