CatchFree Buys Micro-Survey Platform KISSinsights

June 15 2012
App feedback service CatchFree has acquired micro-surveying platform KISSinsights from its developer KISSmetrics. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hiten Shah and Sean Ellis‘Person-based’ analytics platform KISSmetrics was launched in 2008 to help clients make better use of their web site analytics. KISSinsights enables businesses to ask web site users questions at the point when they are making decisions, giving a more accurate picture of motives, according to KISSmetrics.

The tool will be integrated into CatchFree, which provides a free online service for comparing apps based on detailed customer feedback. KISSmetrics’ CEO Hiten Shah says the sale will enable his firm to focus resources on its customer analytics platform.

CatchFree CEO Sean Ellis comments: ‘Several months ago we discovered that publishers on CatchFree were getting more value from the insights we uncovered than the traffic we could send. With requests for a more elegant way to collect feedback and the ability to ask custom questions, it became clear that we needed something like KISSinsights.’

Last year, online entertainment leaders Hulu and Spotify stopped using KISSmetrics’ analytics services, after it was found that the firm had been employing ‘ETag’ technology to track users, even after they had deleted their cookies. The firm has since updated its privacy policy to explain how users can opt out of its tracking system, and to confirm that it is no longer tracking users who delete their cookies.
