ICG Names Arthur Fletcher as New Chairman

The UK-based Independent Consultants Group (ICG) has appointed Arthur Fletcher as its new Chairman, replacing Andrew Smith who held the title for the past five years.

The ICG is a professional organisation of nearly 400 independent researchers, based in the UK but with members worldwide. Its three areas of focus include linking clients to the most appropriate consultants, offering support and resources for independents, and providing a platform through which suppliers and independents can offer their services.

Fletcher (pictured) takes up his post with nearly four decades of experience in the market research sector. He began his career as a food technologist with Unilever Research, before moving agency-side with the Research Bureau Ltd, Michael Bungey DFS, Strategic Marketing International, and Blauw Research UK. He currently runs his own agency, neo:researcher, in Norfolk.

Commenting on his new role, Fletcher said: 'I'm delighted to have been appointed to the Chair of the ICG by such an impressive group of peers. Between us we have the ability to conduct research in every major market around the world, have experience in all the key market sectors, and have used all major research techniques, both old and new.'

His plans for the immediate future include consolidating the web site and new identity which were launched last year, and strengthening the support network for members. He is particularly interested in exploiting digital technologies to encourage more exchanges between members based outside London and the South East, and recently launched a professional development webinar programme.

Since taking on the chair in 2007, Andrew Smith has led the ICG through a period of growth, while strengthening its links with other professional organisations. He has also increased the organisation's profile through events such as the annual Research Question Time and joint BIG/ ICG events in the north.
