Navigant Buys Cleantech Specialist Pike

July 10 2012

US-based cleantech specialist Pike Research has been acquired by energy sector market intelligence provider Navigant. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Clint WheelockPike was launched in 2009 by former ABI Research leader Clint Wheelock (pictured), and now has US offices in Boulder, CO, and Washington, DC; a European HQ in London; and AsiaPac regional headquarters in Seoul, South Korea.

The firm produces more than 100 research reports annually, and offers market sizing, forecasting and segmentation for new clean technology markets. It also provides competitive intelligence and benchmarking services, and assesses demand for new products.

Through the acquisition, Navigant expands its current offering to smart grid, renewables and cleantech capabilities. The company is headquartered in Chicago with more than 2,500 total employees worldwide, including over 300 professionals who work in its Energy Practice.

The entire Pike Research team will move to Navigant, and the business will continue to be led by Wheelock as MD. He comments: 'We feel that there is a very strong complementary relationship between our cleantech market intelligence services and Navigant's existing consulting business. In particular, this will give us a strong platform for continued expansion in the global utility sector, and to significantly expand our research offerings and capabilities in the energy sector, while continuing to build our coverage in emerging cleantech markets.'
