ABI Opens Mobile 'Teardown' Facility in Texas

October 2 2012

Technology specialist ABI Research has opened a new mobile 'teardown' facility in Austin, Texas, to offer component analysis of mobile handsets segmented by manufacturer. The new team will be led by VP Engineering, Jim Mielke.

Taking it apart...ABI Research provides analysis and quantitative forecasting of trends in global connectivity and other emerging technologies, from its offices in North America, Europe and Asia.

In 2011, the firm acquired teardown specialist Market Eye 1, since when, ABI says its device teardown business has been one of its fastest growing segments.

'Teardown' is the act of disassembling a product to identify its component parts and functions, to aid understanding of how it works, analyse the costs involved and provide other information for competitor and market intelligence purposes.

Tim Archdeacon, ABI Research founder and President, comments: 'There will always be a need for news and opinion, but the core market analyst of the future is much more programmer than journalist. Our highly technical teardown operation is at the forefront of innovation in technology market intelligence.'
