Luck's Decipher Becomes Decrypt in UK

November 20 2012

MR technology firm Decipher Market Research has moved to using the name Decrypt in the UK, following a trademark dispute with West London-based media strategy and research group Decipher.

New UK identity for DecipherFounded in 2000, US-based Decipher is an MR services provider specialising in online survey programming, data collection, data processing/reporting, and custom technology development. Earlier this year, the firm hired former Confirmit director Richard Collins as Director of Client Development for EMEA, based in its London office.

West London-based media and technology specialist Decipher (www.decipher.co.uk) has established itself as a provider of consumer insight to broadcasters, TV platforms and ISPs across Europe - with a focus on consumer adoption of new, converged devices and services. Director of Research Hamish McPharlin comments: 'Decipher Inc. launched in the UK without reference to us but we have been running a consumer research business in the UK under the Decipher name since 1998 and need to protect our brand integrity. We wish Decrypt well but the brand change was necessary for them to operate here.'

The US-based firm will now change its name in the UK, while retaining the name Decipher elsewhere in the world. Kristin Luck, President of Decipher in the US, comments: 'As we are unable to operate in the UK under our official name, we decided to choose a name for our London office that had the same connotation as the name Decipher. 'Decrypt' has essentially the same meaning behind it, and it even sounds similar.'

Separately in the UK, Decrypt has appointed Dan Moore as Lead Programmer, following five years at Ipsos MORI where he latterly served as Team Leader, and two years as a Scripter at the iD Factory. In addition, Aaron Kuhnel has re-located from Decipher US after five years, to join the team in the UK. Collins says that more UK staff appointments will be made in the coming months.

The US-based firm now has a UK web address at www.decryptresearch.co.uk/n/ and a US home page at www.decipherinc.com .
