New Zealand-based natural language processing and text analytics app developer Syl Semantics is looking to raise up to $1m in angel investor funding, which it will use to expand its sales and marketing efforts and further develop its platform.

Sean WilsonFounded in 2008 by software firm Codec and Syl Semantics' Chief Scientist Peter de Vocht, the Wellington-based firm has developed a proprietary semantic search and analysis platform to enable users to scan their organisation's existing data.

While the company says it has identified other potential products that could operate on the core platform, it is currently focusing its efforts on its Syl Semantics tool, which delivers enterprise semantic search, information asset inventory, automated document description and topic detection, alongside online sentiment analysis and brand/reputation tracking.

To date, the company has raised more than $2m from its founders. CEO Sean Wilson (pictured) is seeking outside capital in order to expand the platform, and told the New Zealand Herald his team is currently in discussions with several groups of investors.
