Semantic Analysis Firm Sophia Search Raises $3.7m

March 15 2013

Semantic content analysis firm Sophia Search has closed a $3.7m Series A funding round, which it will use to increase marketing and sales efforts in North America, and to accelerate product roll-out.

David PattersonEstablished in 2007 in Northern Ireland, Sophia says its software automatically extracts precise meaning from large sets of unstructured content, without the need for training or human guidance. Its core product, Sophia Digital Librarian, automatically adds semantic metadata such as topics, concepts, document tags and semantic tags to each document, then makes this available to other tools such as search and content management systems to improve the 'findability' of information.

The firm's funding was led by Atlantic Bridge. Sophia CEO David Patterson (pictured) says the commitment of this 'top tier institutional investor' is 'a powerful endorsement of our strategy, technology, customer success and team.' He adds: 'This funding gives us the means to scale the business further in the North American and European markets, and ultimately to address new verticals.'
