Pentaho Buys UX and Dashboard Firm Webdetails

US business intelligence and analytics firm Pentaho has acquired Portugal-based user experience (UX) and dashboard specialist Webdetails, enabling it to offer richer data-driven visualization tools to its clients. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 2004, Pentaho offers business analytics through a suite of data access, visualization, integration, analysis and mining solutions. Last October, the firm raised $23m in Series C funding, bringing its total raised to date to $55m.

Having previously worked with Pentaho to develop plug-ins for creating dashboards, Webdetails' 20-strong team already know how to design embedded analytics tools for Pentaho clients, and have an understanding of data scientists' preferences for exploring data.

As part of the deal, Webdetails' founder Pedro Alves will take on the new role of Senior Vice President, Community for Pentaho, while continuing in his existing role as General Manager for Webdetails.
