Growth for UK's Explain

July 5 2013

Newcastle, UK-based full service firm Explain Research has reported an 8% growth in sales revenue, to £1.04m, for the financial year ending March 31st 2013.

The positive result, along with a 40 percent hike in sales for the quarter ending June 30th, follows the company's November acquisition of local innovation agency Wood Holmes for an undisclosed sum. At the time, Explain said it was also in negotiations to buy an unnamed specialist research agency based in London, in the spring.

Explain was set up in 1993 and now employs more than 50 people. According to www.thejournal.co.uk , CEO David Shiel says the hiring last year of two execs focused on expanding the firm's presence in FMCG, automotive and branding markets have shown a good return on investment, and the appointment of a specialist technology supplier to work alongside the company three months ago is also proving important.

Shiel comments: 'In addition, we've also seen growth in core sectors such as financial services. We've added two top 10 building societies to our list of recent wins - and the demand for research consultancy within social housing continues to outstrip all expectations.'
