Mu Sigma to Hire 300 for New Big Data Center

September 19 2013

Decision science and data analytics firm Mu Sigma is to open a big data center in Austin, Texas, where it plans to hire up to 300 full-time decision scientists and support staff.

Dhiraj RajaramChicago-based Mu Sigma, which also has a delivery centre in Bangalore, India, helps companies 'institutionalize data-driven decision-making' by bringing together big data, business methods, maths and technology. In February, MasterCard's insights arm MasterCard Advisors acquired a stake in the firm, and said it would combine its anonymous purchase behavior data with Mu Sigma's advanced analytics.

Opening in October, the new center will house a Delivery Center and Customer Lab led by Krishna Rupanagunta, Mu Sigma's Geography Head; while Head of Innovation & Development Zubin Dowlaty will oversee the new Austin Innovation Lab.

The facility will complement the company's existing Bangalore site, which employs around 2,500 decision scientists. CEO and founder Dhiraj Rajaram (pictured) says the firm selected Austin because of its culture of innovation, good education system, vibrant outdoor environment and affordability, which he believes are all attractive to those the company is planning to recruit.

'We started Mu Sigma in Chicago with a vision to democratize analytics, and opening this Austin facility strengthens our relationship with our customers,' Rajaram adds.
