Crowdsourcing Firm Targets Movie and TV Producers

October 8 2013

Trainee movie producer Peter Dickinson has launched a new crowdsourcing tool called WeGreenlight, which will enable consumers to vote on the movies and entertainment they want to see produced.

Peter DickinsonDickinson (pictured) came up with the concept while studying film at Chapman University, as he struggled to research and market his own movies. Through the tool, users can provide feedback to help movie or TV producers identify their target market before any costs are incurred.

When users sign up to use WeGreenlight, demographics such as consumer activity, age, gender and location are collected. Any user can then post his or her idea, and other users can then view these projects and offer qualitative feedback and 'greenlight' the project if they want to see it made. Once a project has been approved, details about demand and the cumulative demographic information is graphically displayed for producers to analyze.

In a statement, Dickinson said: 'WeGreenlight empowers consumers to voice out their product demands. By building a following before making the product, your chance of successfully launching entertainment productions and other products and services will accelerate.'
