September 26 2014

Life science research and advisory firm BioInformatics LLC has announced the acquisition of LA-based analytical equipment research specialist Strategic Directions International (SDi).

BioInformatics Buys SDiBioInformatics is focused on the life science tools market, while SDi's advisors and Market Analysis & Perspective (MAP) reports provide consulting and intelligence for the industry. BioInformatics President and co-founder Bill Kelly says the strengths of the two firms 'enhance and complement' each other.

SDi, which was established in 1981 and also publishes TSM customer purchasing behavior reports and publishes the industry newsletter, Instrument Business Outlook, will retain its offices and current staff.

BioInformatics CEO Jennifer Cotteleer comments: 'For 30 years, SDi has been the gold standard for accurate and credible assessments of the complex analytical equipment markets that the company covers. This acquisition strengthens our position in the life sciences while expanding our capability to explore adjacent markets for our clients.' According to Larry Schmid, President and co-founder of SDi, the combined firms will 'provide clients with a 360 degree view of the market - from strategic projections on market performance to tactical voice-of-customer - and the experience to advise clients on their next move.'

With the arrival of SDi, the newly merged firm's services will include market sizing, brand strength assessment, and measuring customer loyalty.
