October 24 2014

In the UK, the Health and Social Care Information Centre has extended NatCen Social Research's contract to deliver its Health Survey for England study for four more years until 2019. NatCen will deliver the survey in collaboration with University College London.

Rachel CraigThe Health Survey for England study is used by the Government to plan health services and shape policy decisions, and is regarded as the main source of information about the nation's health used by healthcare professionals and academics alike. NatCen, which has conducted the study for the past twenty years, will continue to design, carry out and report on the survey, and archive the data.

As part of the process, the organisation's interviewers and nurses will visit around 8,000 adults and 2,000 children each year collecting self-reported and biometric data across a wide range of topics from disability, mental health and care needs to obesity.

Rachel Craig (pictured), NatCen's Senior Research Director, commented: 'It's a credit to NatCen's interviewers and researchers' hard work and skill that we're coming up to almost a quarter of a century of delivering this vital survey. I am incredibly pleased that we've secured another four years of the important and influential Health Survey for England.'
