Firms Link for US, UK and Chinese Book Market Insights

April 15 2015

Nielsen Book has announced a partnership with Chinese retail tracking service Openbook. The deal promises clients in the English language book markets in the US and UK a better understanding of the market in China, and vice versa.

US, UK and Chinese Books...Openbook offers information and consulting services for the Chinese book industry, and its bookstore panel covers more than 2,000 establishments in over 890 cities and counties around China. Through the partnership, Openbook will publish weekly overall and genre-specific US and UK book sales charts, as well as US and UK rights contact information; and Nielsen will introduce Openbook's research services to its clients around the world, including the English translation of the 2014 China Market Report.

Nielsen Book President Jonathan Nowell says the exposure of US and UK charts on Openbook's systems will stimulate rights and export sales opportunities for international publishers.

According to Yanping Jiang, General Manager of Openbook, the collaboration will create new services for the Chinese book market: 'Openbook will benefit from the agreement in terms of access to advanced data tracking and analytics for the global English book markets'. She adds: 'Meanwhile, through this agreement, Openbook's clients are able to gain information about global English book market trends, best-selling books as well as industry best practise, which will help our clients introduce top quality books to meet Chinese consumers' needs.'
