App Annie Acquires Mobile Data Firm Mobidia

May 6 2015

App store analytics firm App Annie has acquired Canadian mobile and smartphone data usage analytics and measurement company Mobidia, for an undisclosed sum.

Bertrand SchmittLaunched in 2012, Mobidia offers access to a global sample of smartphone and tablet users, providing insights into mobile usage trends across hundreds of thousands of mobile apps and mobile networks. This includes real usage data from users of both cellular and WiFi networks.

App Annie says the acquisition will accelerate the international expansion of its Usage Intelligence product, which already provides active user and engagement trends from thousands of apps across 60 countries. This should help publishers to analyse competitor apps, identify investment opportunities, and evaluate advertising revenue potential.

As part of the acquisition, Mobidia's team of 30 joins App Annie, and Mobidia's Vancouver headquarters will become App Annie's twelfth global office. App Annie CEO Bertrand Schmitt (pictured) says Mobidia is a pioneer in the industry, and the combination will give clients 'the most comprehensive and granular app usage dataset on the market.'
