KPMG Capital Makes Three Data and Analytics Investments

May 21 2015

KPMG Capital, the venture fund belonging to accounting and advisory giant KPMG, has invested in data mining and predictive modelling firm SDART, while also providing funding for KPMG proprietary solutions Astrus and Customer Compass. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Mark ToonThe fund was set up in 2013 to invest in big data and analytics businesses through acquisitions and technology partnerships. In December, it was used to buy a 'substantial' equity stake in US-based trend intelligence specialist Bottlenose, and last week KPMG itself acquired customer experience management and feedback technology specialist Nunwood.

The fund's latest investments are in UK-based SDART, whose flagship Financial Microscope tool provides a forward looking view of financial sustainability and performance; and in two KPMG solutions - third-party due diligence and monitoring provider Astrus; and customer experience management platform Customer Compass, which offers clients a 360-degree view of the customer journey and analysis of resulting patterns.

Mark Toon (pictured), CEO of KPMG Capital, comments: 'When we look for opportunities to invest in, we are particularly interested in companies with solutions that deliver disruptive data insights and analytics. From the outset of an investment, we assign a global sponsor and team that can help unlock the opportunities to deliver innovations that generate actionable insight and value to our member firms' clients. Our strategy of mentoring and supporting these partnerships has been integral to our model and is one we'll employ as we seek new opportunities for our current fund and look ahead to the creation of our next fund in the near future.'
