AOL Buys Predictive Analytics Firm Velos

June 11 2015

New York-based predictive analytics firm Velos has been acquired by AOL for an undisclosed sum, and its services shut down.

Velos, which was founded in 2010 by Albert Azout and originally known as Sociocast Networks, provides solutions allowing companies to integrate and clean up data sets, develop and optimise analysis and tracking operations and set up predictive models. Two years ago it adjusted its focus from developers to target less technically savvy business owners, according to www.venturebeat.com .

The acquisition took place in March but was made public only this week. A note on the firm's web site reads: 'We are happy to announce that Velos (Sociocast Networks, LLC) is now part of AOL Inc. Our service will no longer be available to the general public. We thank you all for your support'.

Other predictive analytics firms acquired by much larger players include InsightsOne in January 2014 and KXEN the previous year. AOL itself was bought last month by telecoms giant Verizon for $4.4 billion.
