IBM Partners to Develop Watson in MENA

July 16 2015

IBM has signed a deal with Abu Dhabi investment fund Mubadala to bring its 'Watson' cloud-based analytics technology to the MENA region.

The agreement gives Mubadala's IT services subsidiary Injazat exclusive rights to provide Watson in the region whose information and communication technology (ICT) market is growing rapidly.

Mubadala is aiming to develop the IT sector in the emirate, to help diversify its heavily energy-based economy. The group's CEO of Aerospace and Engineering Services, Homaid Al Shemmari, said of the agreement: 'This new joint venture with IBM will put both the UAE and broader Mena region on the leading edge for adoption of this breakthrough technology'.

Watson SVP Mike Rhodin says the partnership is 'another important demonstration of IBM's commitment to bringing Watson to all corners of the world, and accelerating adoption of cognitive computing as the new technology standard for innovation'.
