Media General Hires Former CBS Researcher

In New York City, TV station operator and digital media firm Media General has hired former CBS researcher Lucy Hughes for the newly created role of Head of Research.

Lucy HughesMedia General operates or services 71 television stations in 48 markets, and says its portfolio of broadcast, digital and mobile products reaches 23% of US TV households and more than two-thirds of the US Internet audience.

Hughes (pictured) joins after eleven years at CBS, where she initially worked as VP, Director, Media Strategies for CBS Television Stations Group, and more recently as SVP for CBS Local Digital Media/CBS Radio. During her time with the broadcaster, Hughes led and directed sales, over-the-air, digital, streaming and audience research; and tracked, monitored and communicated stations successes with regard to Nielsen PPM ratings and Internet traffic measures.

Prior to CBS, she served as VP, Director of Research at AdLink; VP, Director of Strategic Research and IMsight at Initiative Media for IM Futures Western Region; VP, Research Director for Team Disney at Initiative Media; and Director of Research for ABC/Capital Cities, Los Angeles Magazine. Earlier, she worked in Canada at the BBM Bureau of Measurement, the Radio Marketing Bureau, and Standard Broadcasting.

In her new role, Hughes is responsible for aggregating and analyzing audience measurement insights, working closely with the company's national and local sales forces to use qual and quant data. In addition, she will collaborate with the programming and content teams to evaluate and launch programming initiatives.

She will report to SVP and COO Deb McDermott, who comments: 'Lucy is highly analytic, strategic and passionate about understanding what makes consumers and advertisers tick in order to better meet their needs.
