MasterCard Partners for 'Urbanomics' Data Project

September 21 2015

Cubic Corporation company Urban Insights has teamed up with financial giant MasterCard for a new travel data platform promising to help planners and developers develop 'smarter, more inclusive cities'.

The 'Urbanomics Mobility Project' will link the travel habits of millions of consumers with their purchasing behavior, combining Urban Insights' big data analytics and visualization technology with Cubic's expertise from processing $24bn plus in public transport revenues and MasterCard's analysis of 43 billion transactions each year.

The partners say the Project will feed into the strategies of a wide range of bodies: transit, urban planning and public service agencies; land-use authorities; city and regional governments; real estate developers; and merchants and other commercial businesses involved in site selection and development.

Urban Insights GM Dan Collins says the initiative 'combines [the partners'] unique resources and knowledge to create a new data analysis platform for planning smart cities, growing their economies and putting in place critical transportation infrastructure and services'. Hany Fam, EVP Enterprise Partnerships at MasterCard comments: 'By combining our respective analytics and insights, we'll be able to deliver a more holistic, up-to-date picture of how well an urban transport network enables access to services, retailers and attractions, making life better for residents and visitors'.

Urban Insights sits within Cubic Corp's CTS division (Cubic Transportation Systems), which integrates payment and information technology and services to create intelligent travel solutions for transportation authorities and operators.
