Explain Hires Three in Newcastle

In the UK, full service agency Explain Market Research has appointed Alex Gates as Marketing Director, Sam Riley as Market Research Executive, and Anna Wiltshire as Market Research Assistant on its graduate trainee scheme.

Alex Gates, Sam Riley and Anna WiltshireExplain, which was set up in 1993 by husband and wife team David and Gillian Shiel, is based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and also has an office in London's Covent Garden. The firm focuses on qual and quant services, and describes its four areas of expertise as depth of understanding, method of approach, interpretation of findings, and implementation.

Gates (pictured) joins after running her own marcoms consultancy Marketing Wand, and working in marketing and market research roles at Northumbrian Water, and the Northumbrian Lyonnaise Technology and Research Centre. MD Kim Davis comments on the appointment: 'Having an experienced and knowledgeable marketing professional in the mix allows us to deliver a service to our clients that not only provides insight and research, but also translates that research into actionable marketing strategy and delivery, closing that loop'.

Riley joins after serving as a Research Assistant for the NewcastleGateshead Initiative, and roles at Prompt Action and Ebquity. Wiltshire brings a Master's in Human Geography from the University of Glasgow. Davis comments: 'With all the extra work being generated we've increased our staffing levels to meet the demand. Sam is an excellent addition to the team as he comes with a wealth of experience across sectors such as leisure, tourism and local authority. Anna is our fourth graduate trainee of 2015 and supports our team on the delivery of various qualitative and quantitative projects'.
