SMI Launches Automated Mobile Eye Tracking Solution

October 28 2015

Computer vision technology developer SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) has introduced an automated analysis solution for mobile eye tracking data.

Cereal numbers... eye movements are automatically mapped and analysedSMI was founded by Dr Winfried Teiwes and his mentors in 1991 as a spin-off from academic and medical research at FU Berlin, and now serves customers around the globe from offices in Teltow, near Berlin, Germany; and Boston, USA. The firm launched 3D eye tracking capabilities in 2013, allowing the analysis of real-time gaze interaction in virtual environments.

The firm's new Automated Semantic Gaze Mapping (ASGM) technology automatically maps data from mobile eye tracking videos created with its Eye Tracking Glasses, for quantitative analysis using its BeGaze software suite. The company says ASGM reduces processing times by a factor of ten or more, to less than one day, irrespective of the study size.

CEO Eberhard Schmidt comments: 'After testing with a number of customers with high volume requirements and study settings in challenging international field conditions on several continents, we have confirmed a high level of confidence and quality for our advanced computer vision solution. We are extraordinarily satisfied with the fact that the automated analysis with ASGM takes advantage of the excellent quality of the scene video and eye tracking data generated by SMI's Eye Tracking Glasses'.
