One Hundred Jobs to Go at SurveyMonkey

March 2 2016

SurveyMonkey CEO Zander Lurie has announced in an internal memo that the company is making about 13 percent of its workforce - or around 100 of its 750 employees - redundant.

Surprise job cuts at SurveyMonkeyThe layoffs are being made as part of a plan to restructure the firm's business offering, which according to reports is not 'living up to expectations'. In the memo, Lurie explained the problems: 'When you have a healthy business like we do, you have to have high standards when you enter a new business, and you have to recognize it strategically when you're missing the mark. The products and solutions in place were not going to generate long-term value for SurveyMonkey. We have some big ideas for that business and we're going to get to work in retooling it'.

Lurie said the redundancies would be 'painful', but those involved would be treated with respect, and provided with generous severance packages.

The announcement followed recent news that SurveyMonkey has hired TechValidate co-founders Steve Norall and Brad O'Neill as SVP, Business Product, and SVP of Global Sales respectively, in its SurveyMonkey for Business (SM4B) team.
