Mediabase and Shazam Develop New Music Charts Service

April 6 2016

Music industry web site Mediabase, which offers airplay charts and analysis, has announced a partnership with music recognition and content sharing app Shazam, and will offer weekly analysis of the latter's top songs in the US, Canada and Europe.

Mediabase and Shazam Develop New Music Charts ServiceMediabase, a division of broadcast software provider RCS, provides in-depth real-time charts and analysis based on the monitoring of radio stations in the US and Canada. Shazam's app has been used to identify songs more than 20 billion times since its launch, and adds another 20m every day.

The weekly Shazam Tag Charts will appear on Mediabase's site each Monday, with data for the top 50 songs from the USA's top 100 markets, the top 30 songs from the next 50 US markets, and top 30s for the ten biggest Canadian markets. Charts for Europe's big five economies - separately and combined - will also appear.

Peter Szabo, SVP Global Music at Shazam, comments: 'We consistently get requests for detailed organic data. Adding the integration of Shazam analytics to Mediabase's existing charts provides specific industry insight into the songs getting immediate reaction on the radio'. Alissa Pollack, EVP at Mediabase, says the alliance is 'a giant step forward in new music discovery' and adds: 'Shazam has been a very valuable part of our Mediabase Power Playlist on a national level for two years. Now, we get to share not only national data, but our users can see the effect of specific airplay in the top markets across the US and Canada'.
