Funds for Visual Analytics Firm SlamData

March 2 2017

In the US, visual data analytics company SlamData has raised $6.7m in a Series A round of funding. The money will help drive further development of its platform, which is used for natively exploring, visualizing, and embedding analytics against unstructured data sources.

Jeff CarrSlamData's open source software allows users to visually explore, refine and publish/embed data stored in NoSQL databases including MongoDB, Couchbase, MarkLogic and Apache Spark/Hadoop, as well as cloud APIs.

The new funding round was led by Shasta Ventures, and will also be used to expand the executive team, starting with Sreeni Iyer, who is joining the company as SVP of Engineering, leading the development of the SlamData platform. Iyer was formerly CTO/CIO and co-founder of Quad Analytix, before which he served as Director of WorldWide Solutions at Terracotta, and the Director of Platform Infrastructure Engineering at Shutterfly. Most recently, he was the 'Entrepreneur in Residence' at Shasta Ventures.

CEO and co-founder Jeff Carr (pictured) comments: 'SlamData has grown quickly by helping enterprises gain immediate insight into their businesses. Our customers are eliminating up to 80% of the time and costs related to the traditional way of doing business intelligence such as ETL, mapping, and data warehouses, datamarts and other forms of data prep'.
