BBC Charity Launches Developing World Data Portal

April 5 2017

The BBC's international development charity BBC Media Action has launched an online data resource, offering feedback from research conducted with more than 100,000 people in thirteen countries across Africa, Asia and the Middle East over the last five years.

Sonia WhiteheadThe charity uses media and communication to help reduce poverty and support people in understanding their rights, aiming to 'inform, connect and empower' people around the world. The new portal has been designed to help development leaders, practitioners and researchers better understand the thoughts and needs of ordinary people in the developing world, with information organised by country and theme - currently governance, resilience and media - and more to be added in the coming months. Along with the research data, the portal also features reports, visualisation tools, and information on the methodology and questionnaires used.

Sonia Whitehead (pictured), Head of Research, explains: 'The primary aim of the data portal is to provide people working in international development with information to help them design effective strategies with people at their heart, but the data will also be useful to anyone wanting to understand what people in these fifteen developing countries think, feel and want'.
