Amazon Uses Weather Data to Personalise Shopping

April 26 2017

In the UK, online retail giant Amazon has launched a personalised shopping service incorporating weather data. The system will suggest relevant summer items based on the weather conditions where a customer lives.

Doug GurrAs part of the firm's #NowItsSummer store initiative, the new service uses seasonal trend sales data from 2013 onwards, to offer products - such as sun cream, flipflops, paddling pools and barbeques - to shoppers based on their local weather conditions. Should the temperature drop, the store will dynamically offer relevant items like umbrellas, anoraks and wellington boots; and Amazon will also be providing 'summer-inspired' music playlists.

Doug Gurr (pictured), UK Country Manager, comments: 'The weather reactive #NowItsSummer store has products, TV shows, music playlists and books that dynamically relate to the weather conditions. Whether the sun inspires you to get summer garden party essentials or you need a fresh playlist for a run, or you suddenly need a new pair of wellies or films to download on your tablet for a worrying festival weather outlook, the Amazon.co.uk #NowItsSummer store will offer everything you need to save the day'.
